book fifteen : The Summer I Turned Pretty by Jenny Han

Book Title: The Summer I Turned Pretty
Author: Jenny Han
Series:  Summer #1
Genres: Romance, Young Adult, YA, Summer Fiction

I read this in book format.

Without sounding like Sophia from Golden Girls, (Yes, I am in fact an 80 year old trapped inside a 21 year old) picture it! You’re on holiday, vacation for you Americans, with your parents. It’s lovely, but you need an escape.

Hello, bookshop.

Hello, beautiful books.

Hello, The Summer I Turned Pretty by Jenny Han.

I don’t know why, but I love Summer books. I adore the thought of sun kissed skin, salty hair, long evenings and sandy toes.

The story is told by Isabel, who visits the same beach house every single Summer with her Mom and her brother. The beach house belongs to her Mom’s best friend, who has two sons. Conrad, the cool, mysterious one that she has been in love with FOREVER, and the friendly and sweet Jeremiah,  the one who is always in Conrad’s shadow. She’s gone to that house every single Summer but this year, something about Isabel is different. She’s grown up and the two boys are quick to notice.

To say I flew through this story is an understatement. It was lovely, it was heart warming, it was sweet. And it was just the beginning.

I was excited to find that Jenny Han had written another TWO books in the Summer series and I was quick to read those too.

The final one made me cry, I was that attached.

A stunning coming of age story that I will read again and again.

I give this not only this book, but this series, a 5 out of 5 stars.
