Book Title: The Last Song
Author: Nicholas Sparks
Genres: Romance, Young Adult, Summer Fiction
I read this in book format.
Say the name Nicholas Sparks to me and a small, pained mouse-like noise will escape from my mouth.
Nicholas Sparks novels are renowned for being heartbreaking, eye-opening and stunning, and The Last Song was every single one of those.
As many of you may know, The Last Song was made into a film starring Miley Cyrus and Liam Hemsworth but, as I always do, I read this before I watched the movie.
Ronnie is a troubled teenager. Her parents are divorced and her Father moved away. It turned everything she thought she knew upside down. Three years later, she is still angry with her parents and her Mother is increasingly concerned about her behavior. She sends her to stay with her Father over the Summer and Ronnie learns about forgiveness, first loves and heartbreak.
I love Nicholas Sparks stories, no matter how sad they are because they are real life stories. Real things that happen every single day to people across the world and sometimes, I think we need to be reminded of that.
That no matter how sad we are sometimes, there’s always someone suffering more.
I liked The Last Song, it was a true coming-of-age story that felt real. You really saw Ronnie’s character grow up in the short time she was at the beach with her Father and when their relationship blossomed again, it was stunning to read about.
I give this book a 4 out of 5 stars.
